PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Rough second quarter does in Post Falls in loss at Lewiston
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 2 years AGO
LEWISTON — Six days earlier, the whole game was pretty much a stinker.
On Thursday night, one bad quarter did in the visiting Post Falls Trojans in a 67-38 Inland Empire League loss to the Lewiston Bengals.
Lewiston outscored Post Falls 20-6 in the second quarter, with Michael Wren coming off the bench and scoring all 10 of his points in the quarter for the Bengals (10-2, 3-0 IEL), including two 3-pointers.
“We had one of those quarters that we’re prone to have,” said Post Falls coach Mike McLean, whose team lost 31-18 to Lewiston at home last Friday. “We missed five layups, and some other shots within 5 feet. That one quarter just killed us. I’m not sure we can eliminate them, but we have to shorten those dry spells.”
Drew Hottinger led Lewiston with 13 points.
Neil McCarthy hit two 3s and scored a game-high 15 points for Post Falls (2-12, 0-2). Tyras Blake added 10 points for the Trojans, and Asher Bowie and Cooper Craig each had five rebounds.
“It may sound crazy with our record, but I’m proud of our guys; they just keep battling,” McLean said. “Most guys would be emotionally drained, after missing so many (makeable) shots. But the kids showed great character. We’re staying together; we’re just having a hard time finishing.”
Next up for Post Falls is a game at Lake City, ranked No. 1 in 5A, on Tuesday.

“Riply finished really well at the rim in the second half,” Kellogg coach Mike Martin said. “We got out to a slow start and were down 10 in the first half, but were able to string some stops together.”
Martin also praised the defense of Luke Miller and Tom O’Neill, who limited St. Maries guard Greyson Sands to 10 points.
