PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Timberlake wins at 5A Lewiston
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 2 years AGO
LEWISTON — Freshman Malia Miller scored 16 of her 21 points in the second half as the 3A Timberlake Tigers overcame a slim halftime deficit to defeat the 5A Lewiston Bengals 54-43 on Saturday morning.
Miller hit three of her four 3-pointers in the third quarter, and tallied 11 points in the quarter for Timberlake (12-2), which fell behind 22-21 at halftime after giving up a flurry of offensive rebounds for putbacks.
“In the second half we played a little more balanced on both ends. Just a little less streaky, a little more consistent,” Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. “We made them work a little harder.”
Peyton Young added 10 points for Timberlake, which lost to 5A Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday and fell to 4A Sandpoint on Thursday.
“It was really good for us: I think we learned a lot,” Miller said. “I think we played really really good on Tuesday, really really bad on Thursday, and somewhere in the middle today. A grueling week, and hopefully that prepares us for the future.”
Savanah Burke scored 13 points for Lewiston (5-11).
Timberlake plays host to North Idaho Christian on Monday.
