Agriculture bills being considered by WA Legislature

OLYMPIA — Several agriculture-related bills have been introduced in the 2023 session of the Washington Legislature, which started last week. Topics include fur farming, alternative energy resource impacts and pesticides.

Below is a non-comprehensive listing of agriculturally-oriented bills being considered in Olympia with abridged bill summaries.

SB 5150

An act increasing the Beef Commission’s levied assessment.

Substitute SB 5156

Expanding the farm internship program.

OTHELLO — State Route 26 is closed due to a fatality collision between a car and a semitruck near South Booker Road about four miles east of Othello, according to information from the Washington State Patrol and the Washington Department of Transportation. The road was closed about 6:30 a.m., according to the WSDOT. This is a developing story and more information will be added as it becomes available.
