PREP BASKETBALL: Sands injured in St. Maries win

OROFINO — After St. Maries star guard Greyson Sands went down with a knee injury late in the first half, his teammates stepped up in the second half as the Lumberjacks rallied past the Orofino Maniacs 62-51 in Central Idaho League play Thursday night.

Sands scored 11 points for St. Maries (6-3, 3-1 CIL), which trailed 32-30 at halftime.

Tyler Renner scored eight of his 16 points in the third quarter for the Lumberjacks, Wyatt Holmes added seven of his 11 points, and Dillon Holder hit two 3-pointers in the third, where St. Maries outscored Orofino 25-8. Holder finished with 12 points, Renner had nine rebounds, Jared Badged five assists.

“Some guys stepped up; they really came through after Greyson went down,” said St. Maries coach Bryan Chase, who said the ’Jacks could find out more about the severity of Sands’ injury today.

Joel Scott scored a game-high 19 points for Orofino (6-3, 1-2).

St. Maries plays at Genesis Prep on Saturday.

POST FALLS — Senior guard Donovan Daniels hit three 3-pointers in the second quarter to spark the Jaguars past the Tigers in a nonleague game at The Courts.

“We played good, solid, man-to-man defense,” Genesis Prep coach Lon Morast said. “We played with a lot of intensity for the most part and played really unselfish basketball tonight.”

Daniels scored 15 points, Cooper Russworm 11 for Genesis Prep (5-7), which hosts St. Maries on Saturday at The Courts.

Talon Rupp Connors scored six points for Mullan (5-7), which hosts Kootenai on Tuesday.

HARRISON FLATS — The host Warriors suffered through a cold-shooting first half, falling behind 44-12 at halftime of the North Star League game.

“They outrebounded us; they’re a little taller team,” Kootenai coach Jake Pfeiffer said. “We had some shots in the first half that didn’t fall, or it would have been closer.”

Nathan Shelton scored 13 points to lead three players into double figures for Clark Fork (7-5, 3-0 NSL), which clinched the No. 1 seed to the 1A Division II District 1 tournament.

Riley Ausman scored a game-high 16 points for Kootenai (0-7, 0-2), which returns to action next Thursday at Mullan.

“She played amazing defense,” Genesis Prep coach Jessica Whaley added.

Sophomore Kinzie Lawler led Genesis Prep (7-8) with 18 points, and Sienna Williams added 12.

Junior Jazzmyn Nelson scored a game-high 29 points for Mullan (8-5).

Genesis Prep plays host to St. Maries on Saturday.
