PREP WRESTLING: Lakeland paddles Sandpont
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 1 year, 12 months AGO
SANDPOINT — On Friday, Sandpoint’s army didn’t quite hold up to Lakeland’s effort.
The Hawks, keyed by pins in six weights, beat the Bulldogs 51-30 in the Battle for the Paddle spirit dual, avenging a loss in last year’s match.
“Sandpoint brought an army to their gym,” first-year Lakeland coach Will Edelblute said. “It was hard for the guys to hear me or the refs, but our guys fought hard.”
Lakeland sophomore Jaren Knopp keyed the win with an 11-4 win over Sandpoint’s Andrew Duke, who finished third at Tri-State last month.
“Jaren really put on a clinic with his on top wrestling,” Edelblute said. “So it was a really, really good win for him. He had a big takedown in the third (period), and just went back to work.”
Lakeland will compete in the Van Tuinstra Memorial Duals tournament today at Timberlake High.
