Missoula Big Sky’s girls basketball team looked pretty tough Tuesday, holding down Glacier for a 38-21 Western AA victory at the Wolf Den.

Just wait a couple years.

Sophomore Kaydynce Couture scored 13 points, junior Audrey added 12 for the Eagles, who jumped ahead 6-0 and never looked back. Big Sky started four underclassmen — point guard Avory DeCoite is a freshman — and improved to 4-5 on the season, 2-4 in league games.

On the other side was Glacier (2-8, 1-5), which picked a bad time to pick up where it left off: For the second straight half dating back to last Thursday’s Crosstown game, the Wolfpack scored seven points.

Reese Ramey hit a pair of 3-pointers for the Pack on the way to eight points, but while the offense found decent shots against Big Sky’s mix of defenses, they weren’t falling. Look no further than an 0-for-8 performance at the free throw line.

While 38 points is reachable — and Big Sky had 20 turnovers — Couture is a talent: She snared 13 rebounds, and it was her coast-to-coast drive that ended with a dish to sophomore Sadie McGowan that put the Eagles up 6-0.

DeCoite was also a thorn, finding Couture with one dish, then bracketing steals and conversions around a 3-pointer by Glacier’s Kenedee Moore.

DeCoite’s second basket, a spin move to the left hand, made it 16-5 at 3:10 of the second quarter; Hale’s 3-pointer with 33 seconds left in the half made it 20-5.

Glacier’s next action is at Missoula Hellgate Thursday.
