Coeur d'Alene High's West to play golf at LC State

LEWISTON — Coeur d'Alene High senior Luke West will join the Lewis-Clark State men's golf team in the fall, Warriors coach Zach Anderson announced.

“An elite high school player in the state of Idaho for his class, Luke brings competitive experience to our team,” Anderson said in a school news release. “We are excited to have Luke join the Warrior golf family.”

West set Coeur d’Alene High records for the lowest individual season average (73.3) and lowest individual single-round score (65) during his time with the Vikings. He helped Coeur d'Alene to three straight 5A Region 1 titles and third-place finishes at state while averaging 71.9 strokes during the regular season.

“I am joining the Warriors to compete for them at every opportunity,” West said. “Whatever the next level is, I want to be a major reason Warrior golf surpasses it. When I think of a good teammate, I think of things like encouragement, preparation, competition and honesty. I hope to bring all these to LC State to help my teammates achieve everything our opportunities allow.”

NIC men's, women's basketball

games called off Wednesday

Wednesday's Northwest Athletic Conference men's and women's basketball games between North Idaho College at Wenatchee Valley were postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak within the Knights program.

The games have been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 13 in Wenatchee.

Eastern football to play

five home games this fall

Eastern Washington athletics announced its 2023 football schedule, including five games on the red turf at Roos Field in Cheney.

The Eagles will begin their season against North Dakota State at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, home of the Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 2. Eastern's first home game will be Sept. 16 against Southeastern Louisiana, followed by home games against Idaho (Sept. 30), Weber State (Oct. 21), Cal Poly (Nov. 4) and Northern Arizona (Nov. 18).
