PREP WRESTLING: Post Falls puts 13 into semis in 13th Rumble
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 1 year, 11 months AGO
COEUR d’ALENE — Post Falls — with 13 semifinalists, including two in three different weights — leads with 136.5 points after the first day of the 13th annual North Idaho Rumble at Coeur d’Alene High on Friday.
Jared Wallace (98 pounds), Rider Seguine (106), Tyson Barnhart (132), Damion Hamilton (145), Trey Smith (145), Seth Martin (152), John Rudebaugh (160), Jose Laguna (170), Keanyn DeGroat (182), Gentry Smith (195), Kendall Sage (195), Trevor Miller (220) and Malcolm Duthie (220) each advanced for the Trojans, who had won the previous 10 tournaments before Coeur d’Alene won the team title last year.
Zach Macdonald (113), Blaine Leonard (138) and Garrett Leonard (182) advanced to the semis for Lake City, which is sixth with 69.5 points.
“Blaine and Zach just wrestled tremendously today,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “Blaine had three pins and Zach had two. It’s good to see them wrestling this well late in the year.”
Garrett Leonard is wrestling a little dinged up according to Owen.
“He’s wrestling with six stitches in his forehead, but is competing really well,” Owen said. “We were playing speed-ball in practice last Friday and he took an elbow to the head. His parents were great and I told him we could pull him, but that kid doesn’t have one ounce of quit in his body, that’s for sure.”
Rocco White (98), Mason Rogers (113) and Will Rossi (120) advanced for Coeur d’Alene, which is fifth with 79 points.
Duke Williamson (113) and Preston Jeffs (285) advanced for Lakeland, which is eighth with 59 points.
Wrestling resumes today at 9 a.m.
