SPIRIT LAKE — The host Tigers made 11 3-pointers, six in a hot-shooting first quarter, en route to the victory over the visiting Wampus Cats on senior night.
Jenna Chase hit four 3s, three in the first quarter, and finished with 12 points for Timberlake (17-2), ranked third in 3A. Marissa Needs, Jozee MacArthur and Payton Young hit one 3 each in the opening quarter for the Tigers.
“We’ve had some cold shooting, especially early in games,” Timberlake coach Matt Miller said, referring to recent games vs. Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry. “Tonight we shot really well in the first half.”
Malia Miller and Sophia Soumas each made two 3s for Timberlake.
Ciara Soumas, Timberlake’s lone senior, was shaken up by a hard fall in Friday’s game vs. Bonners, and was feeling some back soreness. She was on the court Monday for the opening tip on senior night, then the officials called a timeout right after the tip so she could sub out.
Lucy Simpson scored eight of her 12 points in the fourth quarter for Timberlake.
Lilly Reuter and Amari Printz-Hay each scored six points for 1A Division II Clark Fork (5-12), which is scheduled to host Kootenai tonight.
Timberlake visits Lakeland on Thursday, then plays host to Bonners Ferry next Monday in Game 1 of a best-of-3 series for the 3A District 1 championship.
