LEGION BASEBALL: Lums, Northern Lakes split their games in pod play

COEUR d’ALENE — The Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen beat the Withnell Dodgers of Salem, Ore., 15-6, before falling to the NW 509 Stars 15U 7-2 to conclude pod play at the Spokane/Coeur d’Alene Senior Wood Bat Classic on Saturday at Thorco Field.

Coeur d’Alene (12-11) finished 1-3 in pod play.

Against Withnell, the Lums jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, fell behind 6-3 after two innings, then took the lead for good with a seven-run third.

Eric Bumbaugh went 4 for 5 with four RBIs and two runs scored for Coeur d’Alene. He hit a two-run single in a five-run sixth.

Owen Benson was 4 for 4 with three RBIs and a run scored. His two-run double in the sixth capped the scoring.

Joe DuCoeur and Cooper Erickson each drove in a pair of runs for the Lums.

Bryce Hall’s RBI single broke a 6-all tie in the second, and the Lums never looked back.

Left-hander Isaac Ziegler earned the win with 4.2 innings of two-hit, shutout relief. He struck out five and walked two.

Eli Lowe went 3 for 4 with three RBIs for Withnell.

Against NW 509, Jesse Brown had two of the Lums’ four hits.

Coeur d’Alene will play Okotoks today at 3 p.m. at Thorco Field to conclude tourney play.

Northern Lakes moves to 1-2

in Junior wood bat classic

MEAD — Tadhg Ellwood struck out 11 in 4 2/3 innings for the Mountaineers in a win over the River City Premier in a pod play game in the Spokane/Coeur d’Alene Junior Wood Bat Classic at Mt. Spokane High.

Ty Gallimore and Grant Allaway had RBIs in the win for Northern Lakes (13-8).

Earlier, the Mountaineers were held to two hits in a 3-1 loss to the Whalley Chiefs of Surrey, British Columbia.

Northern Lakes, now 1-2 in its pod, faces Mt. Spokane tonight at 6.
