U16 CHAMPIONSHIP GROUP

The Thorns North FC 2007 girls team lost 3-2 to the Rhode Island Surf FC on Saturday in the U16 championship game at the Development Premier League finals at the Voice of America Athletic Complex in Cincinnati.

Trailing 3-0 late in the second half, Izzie Olson found Natalie Thompson on the top of the penalty box. Thompson was able to beat the defender and get a shot off that found the far post. Thompson added a second off a corner kick played by Ava Glahe with a minute left in the game.

The second-place finish comes a year after the Thorns team placed third at the US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup last year.

The Thorns reached the championship game by finishing second in the four-team group following round-robin play.

U19 SUPER GROUP

The Thorns North FC 2004/05 girls team lost 2-1 to City SC of San Diego 04/05 in the semifinals of the Developmental Premier League finals Saturday at the Voice of America Athletic Complex in Cincinnati.

The Thorns gave up an early goal in each half but Taylor Miller tallied a goal off of a corner kick, assisted by Emily Medina.

Ultimately, the Thorns ran out of time and will play in the third-place game today at 7:30 a.m. PDT vs. Boulder County United.
