The North 14U achieves first program win

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | July 6, 2023 1:00 AM

The North 14U travel softball team split a doubleheader against Krushers 14U, a Mont.-based travel team, on Saturday in Libby, Mont.

In the first game, The North clinched its first ever program win 16-7. The team lost a close second game, 15-11.

Following in the The North 16U’s footsteps, the 14U squad won its first game of the summer season in a convincing fashion. Jennifer Petersen and Hannah Frago, both from Bonners Ferry, led the team in Game 1’s nine-run victory. Petersen went two-for-three with three runs scored and two RBIs while Frago went two-for-three with two singles and an RBI. Bailey Wilson received the win on the mound; she pitched three innings giving up four hits, four earned runs, six walks and struck out four batters.

In Game 2, The North fell just short after squandering a two-run lead in the final inning of play. The entire game was a back-and-forth affair with the lead changing almost every inning. Wilson and Taylor Bannick both led The North at the plate with two hits each. Bannick and Petersen both recorded doubles and accounted for four out the team’s seven RBIs.

The North 14U will be back in action July 14-16 for a tournament in Coeur d’Alene.
