KELLOGG — City Park will be the place to be Thursday nights in Kellogg as the Music in the Park concert series takes over.

The melodic voice of Ron Greene will open the six-week run of free concerts and vendor shopping offering nothing but warm evenings, live music, cold drinks and handmade crafts.

The event is curated by the Silver Valley Chamber of Commerce, a group that is looking to have this event fill the void left by the former Silver Valley Community Market.

After three seasons of running a successful outdoor market, the COVID-19 shutdowns effectively ended the event, which never rebounded once things opened back up.

“This requires a lot of heavy lifting, literally and figuratively,” organizer Diannah Fields-Brown said. “And ever since COVID, it’s been a real challenge to make this a vendor-centric event like it had been previously.”

But Fields-Brown isn’t one to be discouraged. She and her chamber mates decided to lean into the thing that remained constant.

The music.

“We decided to put the focus on the music because it’s there every week no matter what,” Fields-Brown said. “The vendors show up and we can do a little shopping, but there will always be music and drinks.”

Along with drinks, Radio Brewing and the Wallace Brewing Company will be at each concert slinging a few different varieties of their award-winning craft beers.

Fields-Brown would love to see the event continue to grow. The chamber is still looking for vendors to be at each event, even if they can’t commit to the entire six weeks.

“We would love to have as many vendors as we can — even food vendors,” she said. “But any vendors that come need to be able to house their stand inside the park.”

The chamber would like to thank the city of Kellogg for assisting with getting the park ready for the concert series, particularly superintendent Mike Fitzgerald and his crew of workers.

“Mike and the city have been so accommodating to us,” she said. “They have helped address every challenge that has arisen.”

The Music in the Park concert series kicks off inside Kellogg City Park on Thursday, July 13, and runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. each Thursday night through Aug. 17.
