LEGION BASEBALL: Lums rally for first victory at Whitefish tourney; Northern Lakes wins twice

WHITEFISH, Mont. — Trailing by four runs entering their last at-bat and in danger of dropping to 0-2 in the tournament, the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen pulled off a comeback for the ages Friday afternoon.
The Lums tallied five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat the Miles City (Mont.) Mavericks 7-6 at the Ed Gallo Memorial Tournament at Memorial Field.
Coeur d’Alene (15-12) led 2-1 before Miles City scored five runs in the top of the seventh to go up 6-2.
In the bottom half, Bryce Hall walked, Kyle Bridge was hit by a pitch and Joe DuCoeur walked to load the bases.
One out later, Owen Benson drew a walk to score a run, and consecutive RBI singles from Jesse Brown, Cooper Erickson and Jared Taylor tied the game.
Travis Usdrowski’s sacrifice fly scored Brown with the winning run.
Taylor hit a two-run double in the second inning, and finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Erickson was 3 for 3.
The Lumbermen play the Spokane Expos today at 8 a.m. PDT.

Northern Lakes clinches spot in title game
MISSOULA, Mont. — The Mountaineers beat Blackfoot 12-1 and Missoula Mavericks 17-7 to improve to 3-0 in round-robin play at the five-team Missoula Mavericks tournament at Lindborg-Cregg Field.
Against Blackfoot, Kenny Wells scattered four hits over five innings, striking out three and walking three. He also drove in four runs, two on a second-inning single. Jace Cooksey went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and Caleb Mason also drove in two runs.
Against Missoula, Northern Lakes (18-8) totaled 22 hits. Grant Allaway was 4 for 5 with three RBIs, Cooper Lenz 3 for 4 with two triples and a double, Raiston Ellwood 3 for 4 with four runs scored, Cooksey 3 for 5 with three RBIs, and Wells 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
The Mountaineers have won six straight games.
“We’re starting to play some pretty good baseball,” Northern Lakes coach Bryce Johnson said. “We hit the ball really well all day. We pitched well today, and saved some arms (for Sunday).”
With the two wins, Northern Lakes has clinched a berth in Sunday’s championship game, regardless of what happens when the Mountaineers play Gonzaga Prep at noon PDT to conclude round-robin play.
