LEGION BASEBALL: Northern Lakes blanked in title game at Missoula tourney

MISSOULA, Mont. — Andrew Horn singled in the first inning, the lone hit for the Northern Lakes Mountaineers in a 12-0 loss to the Bitterroot Bucs in the championship game of the Missoula Mavericks A Invitational on Sunday.
“They just came out and hit the ball,” Northern Lakes coach Bryce Johnson said. “They hit it where we weren’t. It was just one of those days.”
Northern Lakes beat Bitterroot 6-5 in its tournament opener on Thursday.
“It was our day all weekend,” Johnson said. “But we just ran into a buzz saw today.”
The loss snapped a seven-game win streak for Northern Lakes (19-9), which hosts Camas-Prairie in a North Idaho League doubleheader Wednesday at Lakeland High at 2 p.m.
The Mountaineers will receive a forfeit from Tuesday’s scheduled doubleheader as St. Maries does not have enough players to field a team.
Trapper Oster struck out six and walked one for the Bucs of Florence, Mont.
“He did a good job of getting up in counts all day and we couldn’t get anything going,” Johnson said. “I’m really proud of how we played all weekend, but today just wasn’t our day.”

WHITEFISH, Mont. — The Lumbermen finished 2-2 at the Ed Gallo Memorial Tournament at Memorial Field with their second walk-off victory of the tourney.
Eric Bumbaugh’s two-run single with nobody out in the bottom of the sixth inning scored Bryce Hall and Kyle Bridge to win it for Coeur d’Alene (16-13).
Joe DuCoeur had RBI singles in the first and fourth innings for the Lums, who trailed 6-1 after two innings.
Nolan Christ doubled in a run in the third, and Isaac Ziegler followed with a two-run double to pull Coeur d’Alene within 6-4.
Bridge finished 3 for 4 with a triple and two runs scored.
AJ Currie struck out six and walked two in six innings, and only one of the six runs he allowed was earned. The Lums committed six errors.
Next up for the Lums is a tournament in Seattle, beginning Thursday.
