Area players selected
in three-day MLB Draft
Pitcher Robert Orloski of Middleton was picked by the Boston Red Sox in the 20th and final round of the MLB Draft on Tuesday.
Orloski, the Gatorade Idaho Player of the Year, played against Lake City in the state 5A semifinals in May.
The UT San Antonio commit was 7-1 with a 1.38 ERA and 92 strikeouts for Middleton. He also hit .480 and stole 43 bases.

After spending his first two seasons at Washington primarily out of the bullpen, Flesland made the move to the Huskies’ starting rotation in 2023. The left hander took control of UW’s Friday night role midseason, earning All-Pac-12 honors by season’s end.

Gonzaga infielder Brian Kalmer was taken by the Chicago Cubs with the 536th overall pick in the 18th round.
On Monday, Gonzaga pitcher Owen Wild became the 27th Zag since 2015 selected in the MLB draft when the Tampa Bay Rays took him with the 213th overall pick in the seventh round.
Washington State outfielder Jonah Advincula was selected by the Cleveland Guardians in the eighth round, overall pick No. 248.
