SEATTLE – Players from colleges and high schools across the state were selected in the 2023 MLB Draft, with the Washington Huskies leading the way with seven players drafted at the MLB Draft in Seattle.

Across the Cascades, the first Husky to be drafted was pitcher Kiefer Lord, who went in the third round (No. 86 overall) to the Baltimore Orioles. Pitcher Case Matter was drafted in the 10th round (No. 291) to the Texas Rangers, followed by pitcher Stu Fesland III (Colorado Rockies, 11th round, No. 322), catcher Johnny Tincher (Cleveland Guardians, 11th round, No. 338), first baseman Sam Brown (Los Angeles Angels, 12th round, No. 354), outfielder Will Simpson (Oakland Athletics, 15th round, No. 436) and outfielder Coby Morales (New York Yankees, 18th round, No. 552).

Gonzaga pitcher Owen Wild was chosen in the seventh round (No. 213) by the Tampa Bay Rays. Bulldog third baseman Brian Kalmer was drafted in the 18th round (No. 536) by the Chicago Cubs.

For the Cougars, outfielder Jonah Advincula was selected in the eighth round (No. 248) by the Cleveland Guardians. Shortstop Cam Magee was selected in the 18th round (No. 549) by the Atlanta Braves.

Four high school players from across the state were selected in the draft, led off by Southridge outfielder Max Martin being selected in the 11th round (No. 321) by the Texas Rangers. Next was Lincoln pitcher Bjorn Johnson in the 12th round (No. 362) by the Milwaukee Brewers, Sumner pitcher Jacob Bresnahan in the 13th round (No. 398) by the Cleveland Guardians and Richland pitcher Spencer Green in the 19th round (No. 580) by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
