LEGION BASEBALL: Cd'A, Northern Lakes win class A district openers

SANDPOINT — Will Beckenhauer and Hudson Kramer teamed on a two-hit shutout as the top-seeded Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen 17U defeated the fourth-seeded Orofino Merchants 10-0 on Friday night to cap the first day of play at the Class A Area A (district) tournament at War Memorial Field.

Earlier, Cooper Lenz homered and tripled, and combined with Grant Allaway for 15 strikeouts as the second-seeded Northern Lakes Mountaineers beat the seventh-seeded St. Maries Savages 11-2.

Northern Lakes (24-9) will play the third-seeded North Idaho Lakers today at 8:30 a.m. The Lakers beat sixth-seeded Camas Prairie 5-4.

The Northern Lakes-Lakers winner will play Coeur d’Alene tonight at 7:30.

St. Maries plays Camas Prairie at 11:15 a.m. in a loser-out game, with that winner meeting Orofino at 4:45 p.m.

Orofino beat the fifth-seeded Lewis-Clark Cubs 9-3 on Friday.

Lewis-Clark plays the Northern Lakes-Lakers loser at 2 p.m.

In the fourth inning, Kenny Wells delivered an RBI triple for Northern Lakes, and Lenz followed with an inside-the-park home run to right field. Caleb Mason added an RBI single to make it 5-1.

In the sixth, with the Mountaineers leading 5-2, Lenz tripled and scored on a single by Raiston Ellwood. Jace Cooksey and Wells added RBI singles.

Beckenhauer struck out four, walked one and allowed one hit in four innings for Coeur d’Alene against Orofino.

With the Lums up 2-0 in the bottom of the third, Will Robson hit a two-run single to spark a seven-run uprising. Beckenhauer added an RBI double, Sean Jimenez had a two-run single, Jack Pierce hit a run-scoring triple, then scored on a single by Kolbe Coey.

Tanner Franklin was 3 for 3 and scored twice for Coeur d’Alene.

Dragons Elite 18U 1

BELLEVUE, Wash. — Travis Usdrowski drove in three runs and Isaac Ziegler pitched a three-hitter as the Coeur d’Alene AA team beat the Dragons Elite 18U at Bannerwood Park on the second day of the Northwest Club Championships.

The Lums (19-13) improved to 3-0 at the tourney.

Caden Robinett hit a two-run single to highlight a six-run third inning. Three runs scored on bases-loaded walks, and one run scored on a passed ball.

Ziegler struck out three and walked two in five innings. The lone run he allowed was unearned.

The Lums, in the 24-team 18U Elite division, play Narrows Elite in a championship bracket game today at 5:30 p.m. at Edmonds Community College.
