Night roadwork planned along Highway 53 near Rathdrum
ITD REPORT | Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 1 year, 6 months AGO
RATHDRUM — The Idaho Transportation Department has issued an announcement that highway resurfacing will begin Sunday on State Highway 53.
Crews will work at night to repave SH-53 between Bruss Road and Latah Street for the next two months. During that time, traffic will be reduced to one lane at night. A pilot car will be present.
“Unlike other projects we have underway right now, this project will only resurface the highway and only impact traffic at night,” ITD North Idaho Project Manager Joel Heston said in a news release. “At this time, we are not widening this section, though we hope to do it in the future.”
Currently, there are two other active roadwork zones: a section between Hauser and Bruss roads and a section on Ramsey Road. A center turn lane will be added as part of the Hauser and Bruss roads project, and the Ramsey Road road work involves installing a permanent signal.
An upcoming project in August will create a new center turn lane within the city limits of Rathdrum.
“We have a series of projects on SH-53 to improve safety by adding turn lanes,” Heston said. “And thanks to a $36 million grant, we are now planning to start construction of a new interchange at Pleasant View Road years earlier than originally planned.”
