I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | July 16, 2023 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT – Saturday morning, the Lakers took the field against the Northern Lakes Mountaineers. After 14 innings, the team would fall short, 7-6. Despite facing elimination in their afternoon game, the team continued to fight and defeated the Lewis-Clark Cubs 6-3 in the District A Legion tournament at War Memorial Field.

Against Northern Lakes, the lead changed four times during the four-and-a-half-hour affair. Northern Lakes’ Grant Allaway hit the game-winning single to left field in the bottom of the 14th.

Despite the loss, the Lakers had some great performances. Dallen Williams went 4-for-6 with a double, three singles, and two RBIs. Coleman Inge and Mason Little both recorded three hits each; Little had a go-ahead double in the top of the 10th that was matched in the bottom half of the inning.

Zeke Roop and Sage Medeiros had quality outings on the mound. Roop struck out eight batters over six innings while Medeiros fanned five batters in five innings.

Down but not out, the Lakers had to keep their composure and face the Lewis-Clark Cubs in an afternoon elimination game. North Idaho would snag a 6-3 victory thanks to some big performances.

Brent Campbell went 2-for-3 with a double, a single, and four RBIs; the southpaw also received the save on the mound after a 1-2-3 top of the seventh that included two strikeouts. Roop, Williams, and Medeiros all had two hits each. Soren Caprio went 1-for-3 hitting the only triple of the game.

On the mound, Dallen Williams was locked in. The rising sophomore threw six innings giving up six hits, two earned runs, and two walks while striking out eight batters.
