Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 3 years, 2 months AGO
SANDPOINT — Tanner Franklin and Deacon Hunter drove in three runs each and the top-seeded Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen 17U team punched its ticket to state with a 10-3 victory over the second-seeded Northern Lakes Mountaineers in the championship game of the Class A Area A (district) tournament Monday at War Memorial Field.
The Lums advance to state at Rodeo Park in Nampa, July 26-30.
Northern Lakes (26-11) thought its season was over after the game, but learned later Monday night that two teams from Area A, not one, qualified for the eight-team state tourney.
Franklin hit a three-run double in the fifth to boost Coeur d’Alene’s lead to 5-0. Hunter followed with an RBI double, then added a two-run single in the sixth inning after Will Robson doubled in a run.
Andrew Horn hit a two-run triple in the sixth inning for Northern Lakes, then Tadhg Ellwood’s RBI single pulled the Mountaineers within 6-3.
Charlie Dixon had two hits and scored twice for Coeur d’Alene.
