COEUR d’ALENE — A man who was previously charged with sexually assaulting a minor has been jailed again for alleged sexual abuse.

Darrin W. Maynard, 57, of Coeur d’Alene, is charged with three counts of sexual abuse of a child and one count of lewd conduct with a minor under the age of 16, all felonies.

Coeur d’Alene police responded to Maynard’s residence Sunday after a girl reported that Maynard had molested her while she stayed over at the home. The girl told investigators that Maynard had touched her inappropriately multiple times.

When questioned by police, Maynard said he had “cuddled” with the girl but denied inappropriately touching her, according to court documents. Maynard also reportedly said he had been at work, away from the home, when the alleged crimes occurred, though other household members told police that wasn’t true.

Police initially cited Maynard with sexual battery, a misdemeanor, but upgraded the charges after further investigation, court documents said.

Maynard reportedly turned himself in Sunday night.

In 2012, Maynard and his wife, Tomi, were accused of sexually assaulting a teen girl. The couple ultimately pleaded guilty to the amended charge of felony injury to a child.

They were both sentenced in 2013 to eight years in prison with the sentences suspended. The pair served 60 days of jail time each and were both placed on supervised probation for five years.

A judge denied a motion to withdraw the guilty pleas and retroactively dismiss the cases in 2020. A new motion to dismiss was filed earlier this month.

Community Library Network’s new policies could fracture regional library consortium

For decades, the Community Information Network has enabled libraries in North Idaho and eastern Washington to share their collections and broadened patrons’ access to materials. Now a restrictive policy for minor library cardholders in the Community Library Network, unlike any other in the library consortium, could mean that patrons across the region lose access to library materials.
