A wildfire less than a tenth of an acre in size is contained on the east side of Glacier National Park.
The Ranger Fire cropped up Monday evening on the lower flank of Going-to-the-Sun Mountain about 100 yards north of Going-to-the-Sun Road at the Reynold's Fire pullout.
Glacier National Park Public Information Officer Gina Icenoggle said the Ranger Fire was caused by a lightning strike and started being suppressed by firefighters at 7:30 p.m. Around 11 a.m. on Tuesday the fire was declared controlled and moved to patrol status.
Icenoggle said firefighters were confident the fire wouldn't spread, but noted that they had not been able to fully extinguish the blaze due to high winds.
The responding crew included one engine and five firefighters.
