Big Blue Huckleberry Barbecue returns Saturday

COEUR d'ALENE — Democrats from across North Idaho will revive a tradition from long ago at 4 p.m. Saturday at Elk Point: The Big Blue Huckleberry Barbecue.

“Democrats love the outdoors, clean lakes, biking and hiking trails and natural beauty that are for all to enjoy,” Paula Marano, one of the event’s organizers, said in a recent news release. “We will reminisce and share unforgettable, heartwarming stories about Democrats who worked relentlessly to preserve these natural wonders for all of us.”

The event will highlight the work of the late Idaho Sen. Art Manley, who hunted huckleberries by the pound before sharing them at Democrat barbecues.

The evening will also include stories of North Idaho, live music, a catered barbecue dinner with pulled pork and a homemade huckleberry dessert, auctions, a no-host bar and more.

Three local bands will perform classic rock covers, folk and classical strings music throughout the evening.
