COEUR d'ALENE - A longtime Coeur d'Alene School District physical education teacher recently died while biking in Spokane.

Clark Campbell, 62, and a married father of two daughters, passed away July 18 of a heart attack.

"Clark was an amazingly kind person! He always had a smile and a story," wrote Heather Kinder Montee in a Facebook post. "We coached together and in the past I subbed many times for him. He will be missed greatly. Love and prayers to his family."

"Campbell was a passionate educator and modeled lifetime fitness and a love of the outdoors," wrote Michael S. Nelson. "He was adaptable and created strong relationships with colleagues and students. This is a tough loss for our district and personally for our family as he taught both of our kids for multiple years and reinforced his belief that they can do anything."

Campbell started with the district in September 1990 and taught elementary school PE all over the district for 33 years. He most recently taught at Dalton and Hayden Meadows.

"Clark had a passion for staying active and passed that energy and knowledge along to the kids he taught," Coeur d'Alene School District posted on social media. "He brought a level of enthusiasm and commitment to seeing his students challenge themselves, grow and succeed, which earned him the respect and affection of students, staff and administrators alike."

Campbell was recognized by the Coeur d’Alene School District board of trustees as Teacher of the Month in February 2019.

"He had an impact on students and staff alike," wrote Kristina Phillips. "We are all better off for having known him. He was a kind soul and will be missed deeply."
