Trout stocking to take place in the Clearwater Region

The August heat is much more bearable when it's spent on a fishing adventure.

To help increase the local supply of fish, personnel from Idaho Fish and Game’s hatcheries in the Clearwater Region will be releasing 1,050 catchable-sized trout at two locations this month.

Many of these waters are family-friendly fishing destinations that are easy to access. All you need to get started is a fishing license and some basic tackle. Annual adult fishing licenses cost around $30 and junior licenses for kids ages 14-17 cost $16. Fishing licenses for youth under 14 are free.

Fishing for stocked rainbow trout, particularly in community ponds, is a great way to introduce new anglers to the sport. Those new to the hobby can use simple and relatively thrifty set-ups like worm or marshmallow combinations or commercial baits like Power Bait or Crave near the bottom or below a bobber to great success. Most Idaho waters are open to fishing year-round, but some may have slightly different rules, so please check any specific regulations for your intended fishing spot. The 2022-24 Idaho Fishing Seasons and Rules Booklet outlines dates for the season, special regulations and bag limits, and is available at any Idaho Fish and Game office and most sporting goods stores statewide.
