COEUR d’ALENE — A man is in jail on $100,000 bail after police said he downloaded and distributed child sexual abuse material via the internet.

George K. Nolan, 49, of Coeur d’Alene, is charged with 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a child by possession of sexually exploitative material and one count of distribution of such material, all felonies.

The charges stem from May, when investigators with the Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children Unit flagged a device that had shared child sexual abuse material via BitTorrent, a peer-to-peer file sharing network.

Using the IP address associated with the device, police determined it was located at a Coeur d’Alene residence, according to court documents. They obtained a search warrant this week for the residence, where Nolan lived.

The Coeur d’Alene Police Department, Post Falls Police Department, Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations all assisted the ICAC Unit with the search Wednesday.

Police seized multiple electronic devices from the residence, including a desktop computer that reportedly contained videos showing nude children, as well as children being sexually abused by adults.

When interviewed by police, Nolan admitted to viewing child sexual abuse material featuring children as young as 5 years old, according to court documents.

Police arrested Nolan at the scene.

Judge Anna Eckhard ordered Thursday that Nolan be held on $100,000 bail.

“Our ICAC investigators continue to do incredible work protecting children across the state,” Attorney General Raúl Labrador said of the arrest Thursday. “I’m proud of their commitment to this difficult but important task.”

Anyone with information regarding the exploitation of children is encouraged to contact local police, the Attorney General’s ICAC Unit at 208-947-8700 or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678.
