Florence 'Flo' J. Chadderdon, 89
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 1 year, 7 months AGO
Florence Joan Chadderdon passed away peacefully May 30, 2023. Flo and her twin sister, Lorraine, were born on the family farm near Schefield, N.D., on Dec. 22, 1933, to Dominick and Katherine (Greff) Wandler. She was one of 14 children. In 1954, she married Loren Russell Chadderdon in Glendive, Mont., where they lived for seven years before moving the family to Coeur d’Alene in 1961.
Russell and Flo started the first recycling center in Coeur d’Alene and then the first teen center, 7C’s, in the early '70s. Many remember Flo as a server at the North Shore Motor Hotel and, subsequently, The Coeur d’Alene Resort and The Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course for over 37 years. Some of the famous people she waited on include the King Family (of Lawrence Welk fame), Roy Clark and Clint Eastwood. After retirement, she earned her CNA degree and was a trusted caregiver for the loved ones of many family friends. She also volunteered at nursing homes for several years. After a lifetime of devotion to her family, church and employer, she was finally able to travel and even started to learn how to square dance. She was a member of St. Thomas Church, the Catholic Daughters and St. Thomas Auxiliary.
Flo will be remembered for her diligence and friendly demeanor. She almost never sat down. She also had an amazing memory and could tell you the exact date of any birthday, wedding or significant family event, even in her final days. All of her grandkids knew which drawer the snacks were in. She was kind, she was a giver and she was an ardent servant of the Lord, with whom she now resides. She was greatly loved by her family and she will be dearly missed.
Flo is preceded in death by her husband, Russell, in 1985; her oldest son, Loren, in 1996; and all 13 siblings. She is survived by daughters Corinne Chadderdon of Hayden, Lynelle Holom (Don) of Coeur d’Alene, and Teah Chadderdon (Franklin) of Milwaukee, Wis.; sons Kelly, Kenneth and Shaun of Coeur d’Alene; nine grandsons; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, June 12, 2023, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 919 E. Indiana Ave., Coeur d’Alene, with a reception following at the St. Thomas Center.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Legends Park Assisted Living Community, where our mother lived her final seven years. Their expressions of love and concern for “Flo Flo” were heartwarming. Also, we want to thank the Hospice of North Idaho staff for their valuable assistance in her final days.
