'Inspired design' now open at Art Spirit Gallery
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 1 year, 9 months AGO
COEUR d'ALENE – The Art Spirit Gallery announced its June 2023 exhibit “Inspired Design” and will host a conversation about "How the Light Gets In," with local artist Wilson Ong today from 5 to 9 p.m. at Chalice Brewery, 413 E. Sherman Ave.
“Inspired Design” incorporates work by some of the gallery’s favorite artists to create new interiors and style.
Featured in this month’s exhibit are works by Kathy Gale, Jacquie Masterson, Kate Fisher, Helen Parsons, Tom Jaszczak and Jill Kyong.
Gale considers herself a traditional artist working in an impressionistic style with a strong abstract quality. Her current work is rooted in landscapes, which Kathy seeks to portray as simply and directly as possible.
Parsons is a self-taught, process-driven visual artist with a focus on fiber arts. She learned to sew at age 5 and was immediately enthralled with the endless possibilities of textiles. Emulating her art heroes by experimenting with color and texture led to a transition to using textiles to create fine art.
Jaszczak’s work is rooted in the studio pottery tradition of Minnesota, where he grew up. The pots he handled and admired in his formative years at college were crafted by local potters.
“The forms had to be just right” he said, and his interest in clay developed inventiveness.
“The speed and precision of the table saw, the tool I use the most, supports my style of working, which is fast and somewhat aggressive,” Kyong said.
She tries to capture the momentum of an idea, to reveal dualities and to find other perspectives.
The exhibit runs 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday until June 25.
