Duane Lloyd Hull Wright, 96, of Dalton Gardens, Idaho, passed away June 5, 2023. Duane was born Sept. 19, 1926, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He was an honest, hardworking and loving person.

Duane served in the Navy during World War II. He completed his basic training at Farragut Naval Training Station in North Idaho, and then served in the Pacific until the end of the war. Upon return to Idaho from war, he married Marlene Brandt. They were married for 52 years until Marlene passed in 2000.

Duane attended Gun Smith School in Trinidad, Colo. He went to work for Weatherby as a gunsmith in the early 1950s in L.A. They soon moved back to Idaho from L.A., not liking the city life. Duane worked for Kaiser Aluminum for 40 years until retirement.

Duane had many hobbies, including raising Appaloosa horses, hunting and fishing, and had also built two homes for the family. He rode the Chief Joseph Trial ride, taking 13 years to complete. He also made trail rides with the Gentleman on Horseback. He helped build trail from Tottens Pond in Dalton Gardens to the top of Canfield Mountain.

Duane was a member of the Appaloosa Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the North Idaho Gold Prospectors Association.

He is survived by his sons, Larry Wright and Eileen of St. Maries, Idaho, and Steve Wright and Teri of Sandpoint, Idaho; granddaughter Tonya Hastings and Mike of Salt Lake City, Utah; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his wife, Marlene Wright, and daughter Peggy Van Wormer.

Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2023, at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.
