EWU names Collins as athletic director

CHENEY — Tim Collins, senior associate athletic director for development at Fresno State, on Friday was named athletic director at Eastern Washington University, EWU president Shari McMahan announced.

Collins brings more than 18 years of intercollegiate athletics experience, both in executive leadership positions and as a college basketball coach.

At EWU, Collins will lead a department at EWU that includes 14 intercollegiate sports, six for men and eight for women.

Collins began his professional career as an assistant basketball coach, which included two years at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston.

July 15 will mark his first day at EWU.

In the meantime, McMahan’s chief of staff, Mark Baldwin, will provide administrative oversight of the athletic department following the retirement of former athletic director Lynn Hickey. Baldwin will primarily be responsible for financial oversight and personnel management.

Montana State men, NAU women win Big Sky all-sports trophies

FARMINGTON, Utah — Montana State's men won their second straight Big Sky Conference All-Sports Trophy, and Northern Arizona's women won for the third straight year.

The Bobcats were paced by their football team in 2022-23, who were co-champions alongside Sacramento State this past fall. Montana State also finished second in the league for basketball and posted second-place finishes in cross country and indoor track & field.

NAU's men had won eight straight years before Montana State won last year.

NAU's women won six conference championships among the eight women's sports the school sponsors this past season. The cross country and track & field programs won three of those titles, with soccer, basketball and tennis making up the other half of championships for the Lumberjacks this season.

The All-Sports Trophy standings are determined by a formula that takes into account each school’s regular-season finish or conference tournament/championship result for all conference-sponsored sports the institution offers. Basketball, football and tennis awards points are based on regular-season finishes, while points for track & field, cross country and golf are awarded based on conference tournament/championship results. Indoor and outdoor track & field points are averaged to create one score for track & field.
