Austin Smith, a Coeur d'Alene native, is among five interns who have joined Sen. Mike Crapo's (R-Idaho) Washington, D.C., office for the summer.

“Interns in my Washington, D.C., and state offices gain real-world skills in policymaking, public service and communications,” Crapo said, in a news release. “It is exciting to see so many young people take an interest in public service and foster their skills as they prepare to head into the American workforce.”

Smith is a senior at the University of Idaho. He is studying mathematics with a minor in political science. Smith is a graduate of North Idaho College and Coeur d'Alene High School.

Other interns serving in Crapo's Washington, D.C. office this summer are Landen Blades, Montana State University; Taylor Jepson, Boise State University; Idelia Robinson-Confer, University of Pittsburgh; and Jacob Sauer, Boise State.

Crapo also hosts interns in the various regional offices throughout Idaho. Students interested in positions for the spring, summer or fall semesters can find more information about the application process, internship expectations, and deadlines for applying on the Senator's official website at: https://www.crapo.senate.gov/services/for-students/internships
