I have deep North Idaho roots and graduated from Eastern Washington University with an English degree with a creative writing emphasis with a minor in film. I worked at at the Bonner County Daily Bee before coming to work at the Bonners Ferry Herald in August 2021. I enjoy writing for the paper that my great-grandfather read and covering the same small town community that is still alive today. I cover all things Badger sports, local politics and government, community news, business, outdoors and appear on the 7Bee podcast for the Herald's update. When I'm not working I can be found reading a good book and sipping tea, knitting or attempting to sign opera. | June 15, 2023 1:00 AM
BONNERS FERRY — The Bonners Ferry leg of the Special Olympics Torch Run took place June 5 on the south hill.
Law enforcement members along with the local Special Olympics team ran a portion of the south hill in Bonners Ferry to the Boundary County Middle School.
“It was great having the law enforcement torch run in Bonners again after a few years without having a run,” said Boundary County Sheriff Dave Kramer. “There was great participation as Officers from multiple agencies carried the Flame of Hope on the start of its journey through Idaho towards the start of the Idaho Special Olympic Games.”
Bonners Ferry Special Olympics coach John Beck said this was the first Torch Run he participated in and first in the community since COVID-19.
Law Enforcement Officers around the world carry the Flame of Hope and raise funds and awareness to support Special Olympic Athletes, Kramer said.
After the run, a brief ceremony took place in front of the middle school, where the purpose of the Torch Run was explained. Other local Special Olympic athletes were waiting to see the Torch arrival.
Idaho Special Olympics State Summer Games took place June 9 and 10 in Nampa. The Special Olympics World Games take place in Berlin, Germany, this year.
