SANDPOINT — The North Idaho Lakers split a two-game series with the Lewis Clark Cubs Friday at War Memorial Field. The Lakers dropped the first game 7-2, but bounced back to win the second game 5-0.

In Game 1, the Lakers were tied 2-2 going into the fifth inning, but the Cubs were able to capitalize on some unforced errors. The Cubs put up four runs in the bottom of the sixth and cruised to a 7-2 victory over North Idaho.

The Lakers out-hit the Cubs five to four, but couldn’t take advantage with runners in scoring position. Mason Little and Brent Campbell both reached base multiple times in Game 1 to lead the Lakers. Campbell notched two doubles in the contest. Little had two singles and drew the Lakers’ only walk.

Little pitched well on the mound for the Lakers in Game 1. The rising sophomore threw five innings giving up four hits, six runs (two earned), two walks, and struck out five batters.

In Game 2, the Lakers turned things around for the better. After a shaky first inning, Brent Campbell found his groove and went on to throw six shutout innings against the Cubs. Campbell gave up just four hits, zero runs, six walks, and struck out seven batters. Parker Reichart finished things off with a 1-2-3 bottom of seventh to secure the 5-0 victory.

The Lakers did the majority of their damage in the bottom of the second inning by scoring four runs. Greyson Johnson, Reichart and Little all batted in runs in the inning; Little’s single brought home two runs. Hayden Miller brought home the Lakers’ fifth run in the bottom of the fifth inning via a sacrifice fly.

The North Idaho Lakers (5-5) will be back in action Saturday for a doubleheader against Orofino at War Memorial Field.
