Local legends to face off in exhibition soccer match

The Sandpoint Legends will face off against the Flathead Valley Rapids from Whitefish, Mont., Friday at 7 p.m. at War Memorial Field.

The team is made up of men’s soccer players who have grown up in Sandpoint.

The men’s exhibition soccer match is the culminating event for the Sandpoint Soccer Association’s youth soccer camp taking place June 19-23; the Rapids are the Legends arch-rivals. The Legends, also known as the Green Monarchs, will be wearing jerseys worn by a Sandpoint High School team in the not-too-distant past to resemble their connection with each other. Players from the Legends will potentially include those from collegiate programs, the MLS, and other professional leagues in the Americas and Europe. Per tradition, SHS alumni, graduated collegiate players, and other locals have teamed up to compete in matches like this one since the late 1990s.
