Chiefs' home opener set for Sept. 30
The Spokane Chiefs will open the 2023-24 Western Hockey League regular season on the road, before returning home to play face the Tri-City Dust Devils on Saturday, Sept. 30.
The Chiefs announced their pre-season slate, including a home pre-season game on Sept. 14 vs Portland in the Spokane Arena and a matchup against new U.S. Division opponent Wenatchee as part of a pre-season tournament in Tri-City. The Chiefs will play four games between two tournaments in Everett and Kennewick.
Former Vallivue basketball coach named head coach at Carroll
HELENA, Mont. — Ryan Lundgren, who coached at Vallivue High in Caldwell and most recently at the College of Southern Idaho, was named Carroll College men's basketball coach, Carroll athletic director Charlie Gross announced.
Lundgren will become the 28th head coach in Carroll program history, replacing Kurt Paulson, who resigned earlier this month.
Lundgren, an Idaho native, has coached at the collegiate, high school and club level in Idaho and the Pacific Northwest.
Most recently, Lundgren has served as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at the College of Southern Idaho since 2019. This past season, the Golden Eagles finished the regular season undefeated (29-0) for the first time since 1977, finishing the year as the No. 1 team in the NJCAA Rankings. His time in Twin Falls saw CSI secure two Scenic West Conference regular season titles (2021,2023) and a conference tournament title in 2023. CSI made three straight appearances at the NCJAA National Tournament (2021,22,23).
Prior to his post at CSI, Lundgren was head boys basketball coach at Vallivue from 2015 to 2019. In his first two seasons at the helm, Lundgren's teams surpassed the win total from the previous six seasons combined. In 2016-17, the Falcons finished second at state in 4A. In 2018-19 the team won the 4A Southern Idaho Conference regular season title.
Lundgren got his start in the collegiate coaching ranks as director of player development at Boise State, his alma mater, from 2011-2015.
