The Chapin Building's 100th birthday celebration, "Taste and Toast," will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 6, at the Post Falls Commons adjacent to the Post Falls Museum, housed in the Chapin Building at 101 E. Fourth Ave.

The invocation will be given by the Rev. P. Douglas Cartwright of Community Presbyterian Church, once attended by the Chapin family.

The Pledge of Allegiance will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3603 and the Young Marines in honor of Chapin's son, Walter Chapin Jr., who died serving in World War II.

Piper Rodkey Cane of the longtime Post Falls Rodkey family will sing the national anthem and "Here We Have Idaho." Mayor Ron Jacobson will lead the toast. Other community leaders, dignitaries and longtime local families will share remarks and stories from the past.

Complimentary wine, water and cake will be served. Some seating will be available. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

Built by Walter Chapin in 1922, the building opened as Chapin's Drugs in 1923. It has since served many uses — a doctor's office, a grocery store, a dance hall, a laundromat, a police station and a parks and recreation office. It is now home to the museum and the Post Falls Historical Society.
