KELLOGG — After taking a year off, the city of Kellogg is ready to revitalize its Independence Day celebration.

Through collaborative efforts between the city, the Silver Valley Chamber of Commerce, Silver Mountain, the Kellogg Elks and VFW Post 1675, Kellogg’s July 4 celebration will be jam-packed.

In 2022, the Fourth of July was nothing but a fireworks display — no block parties, community barbecues or vendor fairs.

“We’re excited to bring it all back,” local VFW commander Chris Marker said. “Kellogg hasn’t done anything like this in a while, and we want people to be able to stay local and enjoy the holiday.”

Marker, a Silver Valley native as well as a director of the Silver Valley Chamber, has watched the annual Fourth of July celebrations decline across the community and is looking forward to being a part of trying to bring them back.

Much of the excitement will be tied to Teeters Field and neighboring City Park, with most events taking place or ending at one of those two locations.

For the early birds, a 5K fun run will kick off the day at 8 a.m. in the Kellogg Pool parking lot. As the racers make their way through the 5K course, vendors will be set up inside Teeters Field for the daylong vendor fair beginning at 9 a.m.

The Odd Fellows Pavilion will host a horseshoe tournament at 10 a.m., followed by a disc golf tournament at noon.

As the celebration moves into the afternoon, two parades will take place. The first will be more of the traditional floats-and-cars style and the second will be geared toward kids and be bikes-only.

The traditional parade will begin at 2 p.m. at Silver Mountain and proceed down Bunker Avenue, ending at City Park. The bike parade starts at 4:30 p.m. at the Silver Valley Chamber Office and will run down the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes to Teeters Field.

At 5 p.m., the Sara Brown Band plays at Teeters Field as the vendor fair continues.

“We wanted to make sure that there was something for everyone during the day and I think we’ve covered our bases pretty well,” Marker said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Per tradition, Silver Mountain will cap off the day with fireworks. Fireworks show attendees can find a spot to watch in the Silver Mountain parking lot or City Park.
