Yanagi wins 102nd Washington Men’s Amateur
WALLA WALLA, Wash. — Washington State golfer Christian “Pono” Yanagi shot rounds of 72-63-67—202, 14 under par, to win the 102nd Washington Men’s Amateur Championship on Thursday at Wine Valley Golf Club.
Yanagi entered the day with a one-shot lead won by six shots over finishers Dalton Conn of Seattle and Dane Huddleston of Woodland. Yanagi didn't make a bogey after the 16th hole in the first round.
Yanagi, from Hawaai, will be returning to WSU in the fall for a final season.
Luke West, a recent graduate of Coeur d'Alene High, was the lone local to make the cut. West, headed to play at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, shot 75-73-78—226, 10 over par, and finished tied for 56th.
