COULEE CITY — The Grant County Sheriff’s Office is warning people to stay off Banks Lake, according to a GCSO statement.
The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation has begun lowering the lake, the statement said, and ice fishers and others who remain on the surface of the lake are at risk of being stranded. Moreover, the statement said, it’s probable that emergency responders will be unable to rescue anyone who gets stuck that way.
GCSO deputies, in cooperation with the Department of Fish and Wildlife and USBR, were out warning people on the lake Monday morning to leave.
