Bernice J. Wright, 87
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 2 years, 1 month AGO
Feb. 16, 1936 — March 2,2023
Bernice was born Feb 16, 1936, in Burkes Garden, Va., to Henry and Betty Jones. She was the ninth of 11 children. After graduating high school in 1954, she was accepted into the nursing program at Washington Missionary College in Tacoma Park, Md., where she graduated in 1958 with her BS in nursing.
She stayed in Maryland working as a nurse while raising her younger brother, Luther “spike” Jones. She eventually moved to Anchorage, Alaska, to become a public health nurse. Some of her adventures in Alaska were dog sledding and snowmobiling to visit people in remote villages. This is where she met her husband, Elbert “Hoss” Wright, and later married in 1971 in Elko, Nev.
Bernice and Hoss moved to Worland, Wyoming where she continued her work as a public health nurse. While there, they adopted a baby girl and named her Beth Ellen in 1974. Shortly after, they moved to Billings, Mont., where she taught nursing at the Votech school and started her career as a nursing instructor. In 1980, she accepted a teaching position at the NIC school of nursing, where she taught until she retired.
After retirement she kept very busy with her grandchildren and their friends, where she became a taxi to and from all activities. She became a grandma to dozens of kids, and a mom to many. She always had the right words to say, a meal to serve or a bed to sleep in, and never asked for anything in return. She was very active in her church and became the Community Service leader in 2010 until 2022 when she retired.
She passed away March 2, surrounded by her family and loved ones that she held so dear.
She is survived by her daughter, Beth Grebe, and son in law David Grebe, stepdaughter Cheryl Barber and stepdaughter Marsha and husband Kenny Pina, grandchildren Andrew Grebe, Hunter Grebe, Colleen Fisher, Marnie Moore and Jackson Barber, and great-grandchildren Siena Moore, McKinley Moore and Lakin Barber.
She was Preceded in death by husband Elbert “Hoss” Wright and granddaughter Sydney Grebe.
