PREP ROUNDUP: Timberlake teams head 140 miles south to open seasons

CLARKSTON, Wash. — The Timberlake Tigers got on the softball field Thursday, which was a victory in itself.

As for the game itself, the Tigers fell to the Moscow Bears, 3-1, at Lincoln Middle School, in a game moved due to unplayable field conditions in Moscow.

“We lost, but I didn’t think we played badly,” Timberlake coach Casi Lupinacci said. “We hit the ball really well; we just hit it right at people. And Acacia (Pecor) settled down after the first couple innings. I don’t have any complaints, for our first time on the dirt.”

Timberlake got on the board in the sixth inning, when Pecor singled in Alycia Cameron, who had reached on an error.

Moscow scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the first inning. Kaci Kiblen hit a two-run single, and Kelly Stodick added an RBI single.

Pecor struck out seven and walked three for Timberlake; Stodick fanned seven and walked none for Moscow.

“She had a pretty good changeup that our kids had a hard time laying off of,” Lupinacci said.

Timberlake is scheduled to return to action next Thursday at Sandpoint.

CLARKSTON, Wash. — The visiting Tigers hung in there for three innings, but the Bears scored eight times in the fourth and fifth innings to 10-run Timberlake in the season opener for both, in a game moved from Moscow due to poor field conditions.

Timberlake scratched out two runs in the top of the first inning, then Ethan Pecor singled in Raj Olivieri in the fifth inning for the Tigers. Kenny Wells had two of Timberlake’s six hits.

The Tigers struck out 10 times against three Moscow pitchers, and Timberlake pitchers walked 12 and fanned four.

Wyatt Hartig and Ethan McLaughlin each drove in three runs for Moscow.

Timberlake is scheduled to play at Sandpoint on Tuesday.
