ELLENSBURG — A group of musicians from Central Washington University will perform at an international music conference next year, according to a statement from the university.

The CWU Wind Ensemble has been selected to perform at the biennial World Association for Symphonic Band and Ensembles International Conference, the statement said. The ensemble consists of 49 musicians under the direction of conductor Dr. T. André Feagin.

The conference will take place in July 2024 in Gwangju, South Korea.

WASBE is the only international organization of wind band conductors, composers, performers, publishers, teachers, instrument makers and friends of wind music, the statement said, dedicated to enhancing the quality of wind bands throughout the world and exposing members to new worlds of repertoire, musical culture, people and places.

“In my professional opinion, this is the highest honor of its kind,” Feagin wrote in the statement. Aside from maybe being asked to collaborate with the New York Philharmonic or the Los Angeles Philharmonic, this is one of the highest achievements a college band could ever ask for.”
