Timme named first team
All-American by NABC
After being named second team the past two seasons, Gonzaga’s Drew Timme was named First Team All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Wednesday.
Timme was joined on the first team by Purdue’s Zach Edey, Indiana’s Trayce Jackson-Davis, Marcus Sasser of Houston and Jalen Wilson of Kansas.
Timme, a three-time All-American, was named First Team All-Conference the last two seasons, after being named All-Freshman in 2019-20. He tops the West Coast Conference averaging 20.9 points per game, and second shooting 62.4 percent from the field. The senior is fifth in the WCC grabbing 7.3 rebounds per game, and seventh blocking 0.9 shots per game.
GU's Truong, Leger-Walker
named AP All-American honorable mention
Gonzaga senior Kaylynne Truong, as well as Washington State junior Charlisse Leger-Walker were named to Associated Press All-American honorable mentions on Wednesday.
Truong, a first-time honoree, was named First Team All-West Coast Conference this season. She is currently dishing out five assists a game to rank first in the conference and 32nd in the country. Overall, she has recorded 160 assists which is good for 29th in the nation. She has also scored in double figures in 28 games total this year. From beyond the arc, Kaylynne has made 93 three pointers this season to break the GU record of made threes in a season, which was previously 90 from Jessica Malone in 2001-02.
Leger-Walker becomes just the second player in program history to earn an AP All-American honors for a third time in their career, as she joins Jenni Ruff who also earned an honorable mention selection to the AP All-American team during the 1995-96 season.
The 5-10 guard from Waikato, New Zealand led the Cougars in scoring and assists this season, as she averaged 18.1 points and 4.2 assists per game in 29 games. Leger-Walker's 18.1 points per game average are third-best in the Pac-12 Conference this season, while her 4.2 assists per contest are second-best in the league. Leger-Walker is just one of two Power 5 players to rank inside the top three of their league in both points and assists.
