PREP ROUNDUP: Lake City drops opener to Gonzaga Prep

SPOKANE — Junior Cole Stoddard hit a bases-clearing double to drive in three runs to cut the deficit to 8-6 for Lake City in the sixth inning of a 10-6 loss to Gonzaga Prep in a nonleague game on Wednesday.
Junior Cooper Smith scored three runs for Lake City, which fell behind 8-1 after three innings before rallying.
Sophomore Grant Yost hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning for Gonzaga Prep (1-1), which is scheduled to host Coeur d’Alene today. The Vikings were scheduled to host Gonzaga Prep on Tuesday, but the game has since been moved due to field conditions.
Lake City travels to Lewiston for a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.

LIBERTY LAKE — The visiting Vikings swept in boys singles and doubles to topple the Eagles in the first match between the programs.
“It was nice to finally get outside and start the season against a good Ridgeline team,” Coeur d’Alene boys coach Corey DeLeonard said. “(Coeur d’Alene girls) coach Laura and I are very proud of the way our boys and girls played. They rallied around each other and had a great time competing.”
Coeur d’Alene will compete in the Lewiston/Clarkston tournament this weekend.
