Baseball season swings into action

COLUMBIA BASIN – Baseball season is in full swing here in the Columbia Basin. See below for a recap of each team’s games over the past week, complete with scores and team records. All scores and records are according to the WIAA.

ACH (2-0)

The Almira/Coulee-Hartline Warriors opened the season with a doubleheader against Cusick, earning two wins in dominant fashion. ACH first defeated the Panthers 22-1 on Saturday, then shortly followed with a 29-0 win to start the season 2-0. On the schedule for the Warriors this week is a doubleheader on the road against Selkirk at 12 and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Ephrata (0-3)

The Tigers hit the field three times last week, first on the road against West Valley (Spokane) on Thursday. Ephrata fell 8-7 in its first game of the season. To open Central Washington Athletic Conference play Ephrata took on Grandview in a doubleheader on Saturday, where the Greyhounds won 2-1 and 5-3. Up this week for the Tigers is a road contest against Shadle Park at 4 p.m. on Tuesday and a road doubleheader against East Valley (Yakima) starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague (0-4)

The Broncos played in two doubleheaders last week against Newport and DeSales, losing 13-1 and 19-4 to the Grizzlies on Wednesday and 19-2 and 16-8 to the Irish on Saturday. LRS will wrap up its non-league slate with a home contest against Odessa on Wednesday at 4 p.m. before traveling to Northwest Christian (Colbert) to open up league play on Saturday at 12 p.m.

Moses Lake (1-1)

After falling 4-1 to Hazen in the season opener on March 11, the Mavericks got their first win of the year on Tuesday, defeating the Pasco Bulldogs 12-0. League contests begin this week, with the Mavericks taking on Sunnyside at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Moses Lake will face off against the Grizzlies again later this week in a road doubleheader on Friday starting at 1 p.m.

Othello (1-2)

The Huskies opened the season with a 7-4 win over Wenatchee on Wednesday, then followed up with a league doubleheader against Selah on Saturday. The Huskies fell in both games, 11-1 and 10-2. Up this week for the Huskies is a road non-league doubleheader against Shadle Park on Saturday. Games start at 12 p.m.

Quincy (0-3)

The Jackrabbits dropped to 0-3 with a 17-1 non-league loss to Warden on Thursday, but have a chance to bounce back as they begin Caribou Trail League play against Cascade (Leavenworth) in a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Royal (0-2)

The Knights opened the 2023 season with a doubleheader against Prosser on Saturday, falling 11-1 and 13-10 in the two outings. Royal takes on Toppenish and La Salle this week in doubleheaders, facing off against the Wildcats at 3 and 5 p.m. on Tuesday and the Lightning at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Wahluke (0-2)

Wahluke opened its 2023 campaign with a non-league doubleheader against River View, falling both games 16-1 and 13-1 on Tuesday. The Warriors will continue through their non-league slate with a road doubleheader against Wapato on Tuesday with games beginning at 3 p.m. before another road doubleheader against Toppenish on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.

Warden (2-1)

The Cougars opened the season with back-to-back wins that lit up the scoreboard, defeating Okanogan 13-12 on Tuesday and Quincy 17-1 on Thursday. Warden saw its first loss of the year against Goldendale on Saturday, falling 6-4 to the Timberwolves. Up this week for Warden is a league matchup against Cle Elum-Roslyn on Saturday at 11 a.m.
