Spring cleanup week slated for Othello

OTHELLO — Othello residents will be able to dispose of old leaves and grass, old appliances and scrap metals during the city’s annual cleanup week, April 3 through 8.
Appliances and scrap metal will be picked up on April 3 and 4, according to a city press release. Appliances and scrap metal must be at the curb or in the residence’s alley by April 2 to be scheduled for pickup.
A temporary disposal location for yard vegetation is being set up on the loading dock at 1016 Broadway Ave. Yard vegetation will be accepted at the Broadway Avenue location from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 5 and 8. The temporary location will accept shrub trimmings, grass clippings and old leaves.
Yard vegetation and debris can also be taken to the garbage transfer station, 504 S. Lucy Road.
People who want a list of accepted items can get that at Othello City Hall, 500 E. Main St., or by contacting the Othello Public Works Department at 509-488-6997.

Collision kills driver near Quincy
QUINCY — Adams Road near Quincy was closed for about three and a half hours Wednesday afternoon due to a collision between a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle. The car’s driver was killed in the crash. The collision occurred at about 12:45 p.m., according to a release from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, between Road 5 Northwest and Road 6 Northwest. The driver’s name was withheld pending notification of family members, said Kyle Foreman, GCSO public information officer. The case is still under investigation.
