MERIDIAN — Joe DuCoeur doubled to lead off the 10th, then scored on a wild pitch as the Lake City Timberwolves beat the Mountain View Mavericks 5-4 on Saturday at Mountain View High to conclude play at the Rocky Mountain tournament.

Earlier Saturday, Lake City outhit Madison of Rexburg 11-5, but left 11 on base in a 6-2 loss.

DuCoeur went 6 for 9 on the day for Lake City (3-5).

Mountain View tied it with three runs in the bottom of the seventh.

AJ Currie struck out seven and gave up one run on five hits in 6.1 innings for Lake City.

Avrey Cherry went 4 for 9 in the two games for the Timberwolves.

Lake City returns to action April 5 at home vs. Lakeland in an Inland Empire League doubleheader.

Coeur d'Alene drops two

to 5A powerhouses

MERIDIAN — The Vikings moved to 2-6 on the season following a pair of losses to defending state 5A champion Owyhee and Mountain View to conclude the Rocky Mountain tournament at Mountain View High.

Senior Andrew Karns had two hits and two runs scored for Coeur d’Alene in a 3-2 loss to Owyhee in its first game on Saturday.

Gage Haws doubled to score Cole Rohlmeier for the go-ahead run for Owyhee, last year's state 5A champion, in the fifth inning.

Harrison Trunkey-Evans scored on a groundout in the second inning for Coeur d’Alene against Mountain View, which beat the Vikings 11-1.

Coeur d’Alene (2-6) hosts Post Falls in an Inland Empire League doubleheader on April 4.

BOISE — Senior Langan Naylor doubled twice in a nine-run third inning, tripled in the fourth and drove in six runs for the Trojans, who closed out the Buck’s Bag Tournament with a win over the Eagles at Capital High.

“We’d played well and lost in our previous games, so we wanted to piece some things together,” said Post Falls coach Kurt Reese, whose team lost 3-2 to Timberline on Friday. “We wanted to make it a productive trip and the kids did that. It was nice to see them respond like that today.”

Caleb Jimerson entered in relief in the second inning and struck out six for Post Falls, which limited Capital to one hit, a leadoff single by Boomer Collins in the first inning.

“Caleb came in and pitched really, really well,” Reese said. “It was a nice way to end the tournament.”

Post Falls (2-3) hosts Sandpoint in an Inland Empire League doubleheader on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

NAMPA — Senior Blaze Day had three hits and a run scored for the Hawks, who fell short to the Diamondbacks of Pocatello in the Buck’s Bags Tournament at Rodeo Park.

Junior Raiston Ellwood struck out four for Lakeland (0-5).

“Raiston pitched very well for us and definitely gave us a chance to win,” Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said. “Our defense let us down a little bit, and we gave up too many free 90s. Blaze had a great day at the plate and hit the ball on the nose with every at-bat. It’s exciting to see him get on track and show what I’ve been seeing in practice.”

Lakeland returns to action on April 8 at Coeur d’Alene.

Sandpoint drops

two at tourney

CALDWELL — The Bulldogs lost 6-3 to Columbia of Nampa and 13-0 to Boise at the WTP Tournament on Saturday.

In Game 1 versus Columbia, Hayden Koberstein hit an RBI single and Cadence Skibitsky scored on a passed ball for a 2-0 Sandpoint lead in the first inning.

In the second inning, the Bulldogs went up 3-0 via a sacrifice fly from Ainsley Hull, but that lead wouldn’t last long.

Mayle Ducken struck out eight in six innings for Sandpoint.

Against Boise, Peyton Cessna had Sandpoint’s lone hit.

“This team is searching for an identity and we need student-leaders and upperclassmen to step up and guide the team through this process,” Sandpoint coach Elizabeth Hawkins-Williams said. Despite our struggles, we had some players make changes to their mental approach to the games on Saturday, and it made a tremendous difference in their performance. We are hopeful that we can make it through where we are now and start to perform.”

The Bulldogs (0-4) return to action at West Valley in Spokane on March 30.
