GOLDEN RULES: Points to take to heart

Wisdom we parents would do well to teach our kids:

• Show up for work 10 minutes early. Never call in sick unless you’re sick. Always give your employer two weeks’ notice, working like heck until you walk out. It shows character.

• Put your hand over your heart, standing at attention while the flag is lowered and raised. Many died for that privilege.

• Don’t think you’re the center of the universe because you’re not.

• You only have one chance to do the right thing. Most often it doesn’t come at a good time.

• Honor your Father and Mother. God established the Fifth Commandment for good reason. If you do, you’ll live longer. (Exodus20:12)

• When you tell a lie, you most often will have to tell another and on it goes and goes.

• Don’t be ashamed to say “I’m sorry” or be too inconsiderate to say “Thank you.”

• If you can’t pay your credit card in full each month, cut it up!

• Be thankful for what you have — little or not. Hard work will often take care of the little.

• There’s nothing better than good neighbors and nothing worse than bad neighbors. Be the good!

• Be kind to youngsters, older folks and pets.

• Learn to listen more, talk less.

• You are entitled to nothing — that someone else has to pay for.

• Don’t take that first beer, cigarette, snoose or drug. You’ll always be glad you didn’t or very sad you did.

• You can never over-tip a waitress/waiter.

• The greatest gift a Father can give his children is to love their Mother.
