A town hall on railway safety and preparedness is scheduled 6 p.m. Thursday at American Legion Post 143, 1138 E. Poleline Ave., Post Falls.

Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris said there are community concern regarding train and railway safety given recent train derailment events.

The KCSO is partnering with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Company, Northern Lakes Fire District, Kootenai County Fire and Rescue and Timberlake Fire Protection District to host the meeting.

Norris organized the event to bring education and awareness about railway incidents.

The types of freight being transported through Kootenai County will be discussed.
